Free Online File Conversion

December 18th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Have you ever wanted to convert files without the need to download software? If so, Zamzar is dedicated to helping you transform your songs, videos, images and documents into different formats: http://www.zamzar.com/

Zamzar supports conversion between a wide variety of different file formats. See the following link http://www.zamzar.com/conversionTypes.php

What I like about Zamzar is that it allows me to download videos from YouTube and United Streaming (or any other website) and then convert them to an FLV format which is the only format that can be embedded directly into SMART Notebook pages.

Voicethread in the Classroom

December 17th, 2008 · No Comments

A VoiceThread is a collaborative, multimedia slide show that holds images, documents, and videos and allows people to leave comments in 5 ways – using voice (with a mic or phone), text, audio file, or video (via a webcam). Share a VoiceThread with friends, students, and colleagues for them to record comments too. Voicethread is basically a Web-based digital-storytelling application that allows users to share their stories with anyone in the world or they can be kept private for selected individuals. One great benefit of Voicethread is that it allows an entire group’s story to be told and collected in one place.

Watch this short movie clip to gain a better understanding of Voicethread:

Teachers and students are using VoiceThread as a storytelling tool, a deep thinking tool, a research tool, an expository communication tool, and even an assessment tool.
